  19. !Notepad - a desktop notepad and clipboard utility
  20.  
  21. Introduction
  22. ------------
  23.  
  24. !Notepad is a fully desktop-compatible application. It allows you to 
  25. make important notes in a simple way. It can be used, for example, to
  26. make notes on a DTP document or a program, without the need of a pen 
  27. and paper. It also has an option to transfer the contents of a line 
  28. into a writeable icon somewhere on the desktop (this is the clipboard 
  29. facility). There is also a NEW hotkey option, allowing the notepad to
  30. be called up from the keyboard.

  33. Using !Notepad
  34. --------------

  36. Double-click on the !Notepad sprite in the Filer window and a similar
  37. icon will appear on the icon bar. 
  38.  
  39. The menu (called up by clicking Menu over the icon) of the task from 
  40. the icon bar contains the standard items : Info (leading to our great
  41. revolutionary new "Info" box), and Quit (which kills the application).
  42.  
  43. Clicking Select on the icon will call up a window whose maximum size 
  44. will fill up a Mode 15 screen. Clicking on the grey background of this
  45. window gives the window the input focus with a green caret positioned
  46. at the line of the mouse click. From here dark blue text can simply
  47. be typed in. When the end of the line is reached Return should be
  48. pressed to go to the beginning of the next. If the window is closed 
  49. the text within it will be preserved for when the icon is clicked on 
  50. again. There are facilities to use CTRL-U to clear a line, and the 
  51. application supports use of the cursor keys in editing. The caret may
  52. also be repostioned using the mouse.

  54. The option bar at the top of the window allows several things to be 
  55. done. Firstly, there are 10 pages to the notepad (0-9), and the first
  56. set of icons allow access to these either via a writeable icon or using 
  57. the arrows. The next icon will entirely destroy the contents of the 
  58. current page. Finally the clipboard option is controlled by using the 
  59. page/line icons. These are writeable, and by altering the values it is
  60. possible to select an exact piece of text. The pages are numbered 0-9
  61. and the lines are numbered 0-18. With these figures selected, when the 
  62. caret is next in a writeable icon, pressing Shift-Insert will transfer
  63. the text in the line into the icon.

  65. The new hotkey option allows the window to be called up using the key
  66. combination of CTRL-Insert.

  68. Quitting the application will destroy any data currently in memory.
  69. The window has 19 lines of about 70 characters, so it will take a
  70. maximum of 1400 or so characters. This means a total of 190 lines will
  71. accept about 14000 characters, a truly massive amount!
